Undrallu (Rice Modaks)

This is one of my favorites, made during Ganesha Chaturti. Simple, easy recipe. Super delicious when accompanied with just plain jaggery and ghee, mangai pacchadi (mango chutney made from pickle) or tamarind pacchadi (tamarind chutney made from raw tamarind).

Preparation time- 15-20 Mins

Ingredients
Rice flour- Coarsely ground - 1 Cup
(wash normal rice, dry it in a cotton cloth and grind it in mixie- ensure it is coarse, not fine)
Water- 2.5 cups
Channa Dal/Kadala paruppu (Split Bengal Gram Dal)- 2 Tbl spoons
Jeera (cumin seeds)- 1/2 Tea Spoon
Salt to taste

- In a saucepan- add the water, channa dal, Cumin seeds & salt. Bring it to boil in medium flame (for few minutes till the channa dal is half cooked)
- Now simmer the flame. Add in the rice flour slowly stirring it continuously making sure no lumps are formed.
- Keep stirring for another 2 mins till the rice flour is cooked and it all comes together. Cool it for a bit.
- Make round balls, size as required.
- In a pressure cooker add 1.5 cups water and bring it to boil.
- Put the rice balls in a bowl and keep it in the pressure cooker. Simmer the flame. Cover the lid & let it cook for 12- 15 mins.

Serve with Ghee, Jaggery or any spicy chutney.
